Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where else can I camp?
You can find a theme camp to join, or you can camp in any open camping area at Black Rock City. Check out this page about camping at Burning Man.
Q: When does registration open?
A: Registration for camping happens at the same time as skydiving registration, which opens in mid-July.
Q: How many friends can I bring?
A: If you are a registered camper, you can (if we still have space) invite one additional person. They will have to register a user profile with Burning Sky and then you will need to let us know the email address they signed up with.
Q: Can I camp with my friend who is camping with Burning Sky?
A: If you have a friend who is already registered to camp with us, have your friend send us an email. You will need to register a user profile with Burning Sky and have your friend tell us the email address you signed up with.
If you are approved to camp, you will receive an email letting you know, and you will need to return to this site to complete registration for camping.
Q: I’m signing up to skydive. Can I camp with Burning Sky?
A: Space is limited. During registration you can tell us you are interested in camping, and let us know how you will contribute to the community. This is your opportunity to tell us about yourself how you will make our camp more awesome, so don’t just say “because I’m a skydiver.”
If you are approved to camp, you will receive an email letting you know, and you will need to return to this site to complete registration for camping.
Q: What do campers need to do?
A: All Burning Sky camp members will sign up for a work shift for helping out camp (kitchen cleanup, ice runs, etc.). If you are skydiving, you will work a skydiving shift AND a camp shift. Everyone will need to ensure they are leaving no trace (picking up “MOOP” — not just your own), helping out their fellow campmates, and helping to ensure that camp is a nice place to be.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Still figuring out our budget for 2019, but we’ll post when we know. Camping dues are in addition to skydiving dues, if you are also skydiving.
Q: Is there a meal plan?
A: No. We’re all about radical self-reliance. But there is a community kitchen where you can cook your food. We also have potable water for cooking and drinking (not for showers).
Q: What else does camp have?
A: We also have a shower with evaporation system. You just need to supply your own water, and we recommend bringing a solar shower unless you like cold water.
We have a sweet mad-max-looking “sky van” mutant vehicle. When it’s not ferrying people between camp and the airport, we take it out on the playa at night with lights and music.
We have a gray-water (wastewater) disposal tank (not for RVs), USB charging station, and more.
And you get to camp with your sky family with a guaranteed place to set up and won’t need to scramble for land on arrival to Black Rock City.
Q: Why is space limited?
A: The universe is finite.
Q: Where do I sign up?
A: Right here! When registration opens there will be a “Registration” link in the top menu of the website. If registration is not yet open, sign up here to be notified when it opens: https://forms.gle/64idh4VNycFEQHLaA
