BurningSky OverviewJumpsAfter a few low-key familiarization jumps on Wednesday and Thursday, we will plan organized aerial art for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We'll concentrate art jumps during the last two hours of daylight when impact on the audience will be best. Canopy formations trailing fabric art, smoke in freefall and under canopy, and perhaps freefall formations will draw attention to the sky. Many of us will land near a playa art installation, where information about how to find our camp and enter a raffle to win rides in the airplane will be available. Our second aerial mission is to make the city and spectators as appealing as possible to our aerial video point of view by using the backdrop of Black Rock City to create a feeling of the city as part of the skydive. We may also be able to connect aerial photographers with camps or art installations who would like images of their projects. Landing AreaBy using a fabric ground installation on the playa to attract people to our landing area while at the same time avoiding a concentrated crowd and potential landing hazard, our playa art becomes the arena where BRC citizens get to watch us in action up close. By making a landing area that is attractive to pedestrians yet only intelligible from the air, we hope to extend the collective imagination of the city into our realm in the sky.CampVisitors enter our Burning Sky camp and find themselves in our interactive area, where skydivers will be packing, lounging, and presenting skydiving photos.FlightIn the Camp, visitors can draw for tokens that entitle them to a ride in the airplane. In 2002 we raffled off nearly 100 airplane rides. In 2003 we aspire to raffle 150 or more rides.ImageryDigital images of Black Rock City from the air will be available for interested parties to download later. We will also try to hook up with some of the larger video display areas on the Esplanade to exhibit our aerial views of BRC. |
