Human Man"The concept of the Human Man was born over a few beers with Wes at my trailer in Eloy. We were talking about how cool the city looks like from the air, and how special our viewpoint is. Somehow this led me to thinking about big things that would ONLY be visible from the air, like the famous lines and animals on the Nazca plain in Peru. With a little thought, I came up with the Human Man, a giant figure of the man that we would make out of people (about 2,220 people) on the ground. I figure we'll be able to get him made in about 20 minutes, hold the shape in position for ten minutes while we shoot from the air, and then disperse the guy into oblivion at a signal." -- Bryan Burke
The BuildThe challenge:gather 2000 people to assist in the building of a human replica of The Man The barriers: lack of timepieces, a heavy dust-storm at the day and time of planning, and last-minute changes in schedule.
The result:despite all the road-blocks we hit, the city of Black Rock witnessed a spectacular display of a human structure built of over 1500 people. The Sky People would like to thank each one of you that helped make this happen. Your presence, patience and tolerance of high-noon sun brought to life a remarkable idea.Kudos to Bryan Burke, Karen Hawes, Alex Leigh and the slew of pyramid organizers who worked to tirelessly to make this happen!
2002 marked a memorable experience for Larry Harvey and Maid Marian who did their first jumps over the city of Black Rock.
